Frustrated that Jho Low has yet again slipped past the police dragnet, DAP’s Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng reminded all that the RM100,000 reward is still on the table for the person who can secure the return of the fugitive businessperson to Malaysia.
Lim had in June claimed that an anonymous sponsor was willing to fork out the sum for bringing Low, who is sought by authorities from several countries, including Malaysia and Singapore, with arrest warrants and even an Interpol Red Notice issued against him.
"It was most disappointing to hear that the alleged 1MDB mastermind Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low, has slipped out of Macau for an unknown destination. Our authorities have missed him again, after missing him in Hong Kong the previous week.
"I would also like to reiterate the RM100,000 offer to anyone who can bring Jho Low back to Malaysia. The offer is still open, and the sponsor would be most happy to reward the person who brings Jho Low back to face justice due to him," Lim said in a statement today.
Low is believed to be a key figure in the global-reaching 1MDB scandal, with close ties to the investment fund founder and former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Despite the search involving various countries, and despite having reportedly tried himself to meet with the new Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and 1MDB investigators on numerous occasions, Low remains elusive.
It was recently reported that the fugitive escaped from Malaysian police in Macau, where he had been traced to by the authorities who had earlier failed to nab him in neighbouring Hong Kong.
He was initially believed to have travelled to mainland China.
Lim, a lawyer, pointed out that although Malaysia did not have an extradition treaty or Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement with China, the Foreign Ministry could make an application on bilateral grounds.
The South China Morning Post reported today that Chinese authorities denied that Low was in the mainland.
Citing a source, The Star Online reported that Low was now believed to be making his way to the West Indies, specifically to the islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis, of which he has a citizenship.
A Saint Kitts passport allows a citizen to travel to more than 140 countries without the need for a visa. -Mkini
