Sri Ram: PAS' CJ rebuke belongs to the 'Middle Ages'

Former Federal Court judge Gopal Sri Ram has taken PAS to task for its rebuke of the appointment of senior judge Richard Malanjum, a non-Muslim, as the new chief justice, saying its view on the matter "belonged to the Middle Ages".
Pointing out that Justice Malanjum, 65, was also a bumiputera, Sri Ram said those "drunk with religion" could never be satisfied.
"You can never satisfy people who are drunk with religion. Has PAS produced any legal luminaries?
"The reactions of these zealots are only relevant in the Middle Ages. If they are so concerned, then they (PAS) should support our PM in his fight against corruption," he told Malaysiakini.
Sri Ram was responding to the claim by PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan that Justice Malanjum's appointment had caused unease among Muslims.
This is especially as the appointment came following those of Tommy Thomas as attorney-general and Liew Vui Keong as de facto law minister. -Mkini
