BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today announced that MCA will be representing the coalition in the upcoming Balakong by-election.
"The candidate will be chosen from among those nominated by the (BN) component party which fielded a candidate during the 14th general election," said Zahid in a statement today.
BN has only had one supreme council meeting thus far on May 15. Since May 9, the number of BN component parties has dwindled from 13 to just three they being Umno, MCA and MIC.
Whether or not MyPPP was still part of the coalition remains an open question.
Although Wee told Sin Chew Daily in an interview on June 2 that BN's future was unclear and that MCA was willing to work with anyone, he, as the party's sole MP, is currently sitting in the Dewan Rakyat with BN bloc.
Balakong has traditionally been an MCA stronghold. It failed to retain the seat in 2008 and had not been able to regain ground since.
During the May 9 poll, the MCA candidate managed to garner just 10.9 percent of the total votes cast.
