KUALA LUMPUR: The Pakatan Harapan Government should not make amendments to policies just for the sake of doing so, says Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The former premier said he hoped that any amendments or changes will bring about better benefits or enhance what is already there.
“If not, there will be uncertainties and this will affect the market's confidence on the country's economy,” said Najib when asked to comment on the Government's decision to review the New Economic Policy (NEP).
He said that the NEM (New Economic Model), which was introduced in 2010, has already brought changes to the economy, and is also recognised by international institutions such as the World Bank.
.Najib added that the World Economic Forum has also placed Malaysia as the 23rd most competitive nation.
“Therefore, all this shows that we have brought effective changes to the economy,” he said.
The NEM, Najib’s brainchild, was introduced in 2010 to double the per capita income in Malaysia by 2020.
It aimed to shift from affirmative action plans to become needs based, therefore improving competitiveness and becoming more market and investor-friendly.- Star
