PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian police will send a team to Indonesia on Wednesday to bring back Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the team from Selangor CID will depart on Wednesday (July 4) evening.
"We expect to bring him back to Malaysia within a day or two and we are liasing with our Indonesian counterparts. They have given great cooperation in our effort to deport Jamal," he said when contacted on Wednesday.
On Tuesday (July 3), Fuzi confirmed that Jamal will be extradited to Malaysia very soon, saying that Malaysia would work closely with its Indonesian counterpart to speed up the extradition process.
.The IGP had said he was in close contact with Indonesian police to bring Jamal back.
“It will be done as soon as possible, based on our agreement and cooperation with Indonesia,” he had told reporters at the Selangor police headquarters Hari Raya celebrations on Tuesday.
A report by Indonesian portal Tribunnews quoted Indonesian Central Police chief Tito Karnavian saying that Jamal would be handed over to Malaysia “within a day or two”.
“We will carry out the deportation process either today or tomorrow.The process will be done swiftly,” he said in Jakarta.
Jamal is being investigated for at least six offences, including creating public nuisance by breaking bottles of alcohol to protest the Better Beer Festival at the Selangor state secretariat building on Oct 5 last year.
The police launched a manhunt for him after it was discovered that he was missing from his ward at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital on May 25.
An arrest warrant was issued for Jamal on June 1 for the offence of escaping or resisting arrest.- Star
