KUCHING: Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been called up by the police again to have his statement recorded over its probe into 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim confirmed that the former prime minister had been summoned by the police again to facilitate investigation into the case.
Noor Rashid said statement from Najib was necessary for the police to complete its investigation into the scandal-plagued 1MDB.
“I can confirm that he (Najib) has been called up again for the police to record his statement on 1MDB.
“Investigations are on-going and we are zooming in on the items and cash seized to assist our probe into the case.
“Nevertheless, we are confident that investigation papers into the case could be submitted to the Attorney-General's (AG) Chambers soon,” he told reporters at the Sarawak contingent police headquarters, here, today.
He had earlier witnessed the handing over of duties between retired state Police commissioner Datuk Seri Amer Awal and his deputy Datuk Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim.
Dzuraidi is the acting state police chief following Amer’s retirement.
On a related matter, Noor Rashid said police is still in the process of identifying the whereabouts of businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low amidst rumours that the latter had been arrested in China.
He said the country’s police intelligence will continue to work closely with their counterparts from other countries in tracking down the fugitive businessman.
“We need time (to track down Jho Low). Having said that, I want to assure all quarters that we are confident of bringing him back to Malaysia for further investigation into his case,” he said.
