THE opposition has given Pakatan Harapan one year to fulfil its election pledges to reduce the price of goods and cost of living.
Opposition leader and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the opposition will monitor PH’s efforts to deliver on these, as well as other, promises made prior to the 14th general election.
“I want to see if there is a reduction in the cost of living for the people. We will give them 100 days.
“After that, we will give them a year. After September 1, will the price of goods and the cost of living be reduced? After the re-implementation of the sales and services tax,” he said at a press conference today.
The former deputy prime minister said only “backward” countries reverted to SST from the goods and services tax.
“Based on the analysis I’ve read from experts and comparisons done, GST has been implemented in 160 countries.
“Only backward countries would re-implement SST.”
Former prime minister Najib Razak has warned that SST will lead to an increase in the price of goods.
SST will replace the 6% GST, which was introduced on April 1, 2015, and zero-rated on June 1 this year.
