Resign as MP if you have dignity, Zahid tells Umno defectors

Umno MPs who quit the party should resign from their elected positions if they have dignity, party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today. 

Zahid pointed out that such lawmakers had won on a BN ticket, and as such, should be willing to resign and face by-elections. 

"If the MPs have dignity, they should resign as parliamentarians and face by-elections. 

"We believe that Umno MPs who contested on a BN ticket did not win in their personal capacities. They should instead be honoured (to be elected), and not blame their personal issues on Umno," he told a press conference after chairing Umno's supreme council meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

"I don't want to talk too much, they know what I mean."

Zahid was responding to a question on the recent decision by former Puteri Umno chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin to quit the party to become an independent. 

Mas Ermieyati, the two-term Masjid Tanah MP, attributed her exit to Umno still "being in denial" of its true state. 

Earlier, two other Umno MPs, namely Bagan Serai MP Noor Azmi Ghazali, and Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal had also quit the party. - Mkini
