Submit proof of money politics in Umno elections, says deputy

Mohamad Hasan says a report should be lodged to ensure that action is taken in the matter.

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan says he does not know of any money politics in the party elections.

SEREMBAN: Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan yesterday addressed claims of money politics in the party elections, saying any allegations should be backed up with proof.

Mohamad, who is also the Negeri Sembilan Umno chief, said this would enable the authorities to take appropriate action.

“That, I do not know of,” he said when asked about the claims. “If he (the claimant) has evidence, I suggest he submits the evidence for action to be taken.

“Do not just talk, lodge a report if there is evidence and make sure action is taken because we do not want any unhealthy elements like this to continue.”

He was speaking to reporters after the swearing-in of the speaker, deputy speaker and state assembly members at the first session of the 14th state assembly here.

Earlier, Gua Musang Umno division chief Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah claimed he had heard that a lot of money was used in the party elections.

At the party elections, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was elected president with 99 votes while Khairy Jamaluddin won 61 votes and Tengku Razaleigh won 30 votes.

Mohamad also said he had yet to decide on the Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblyman who would be the opposition leader in the state assembly as there had been no discussion on the matter.

Mohamad, who is also state BN chairman, said he would discuss this with other partners and decide who would be the opposition leader.

He said the role of the opposition was not merely to oppose, but also to monitor the policies and progress made by the state government to enable the people to benefit from each policy implemented. -FMT
