SG KANDIS POLLS | Umno and PAS have agreed to jointly hold a forum in conjunction with the ongoing Sungai Kandis by-election.
Selangor Umno chief Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the forum will feature personalities from the two parties, but will not be held in the parties’ names.
“I had just discussed with a PAS leader and he agreed.
“For example, the forum on Islam will feature Syamsul Debat who is linked to Umno, while Azhar Idrus will represent PAS.
“We want to show cooperation between Umno and PAS. If possible, we may place leaders such as the Umno secretary-general and the PAS secretary-general on the final night,” he added.
Shamsul Debat is the nickname of the motivational speaker, Syamsul Amri Ismail.
Ismail Sabri, who is also the Umno vice-president, was speaking at an event tonight in Kampung Sungai Kandis, attended by BN candidate Lokman Adam.
He said the party will also organise three major ceramah throughout the by-election.
They will be at Taman Seri Andalas, Jalan Kebun, and Kampung Jawa.
The Sungai Kandis by-election, which is being called following the death of incumbent Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei of PKR on July 2, sees a three-cornered fight between Lokman, Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni (PKR) and Murthy Krishnasamy (Independent).
Meanwhile, on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s comments that PAS and Umno are like brothers, Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa said that’s none of Mahathir’s business.
“This is the opposition’s business,” he said.
Last Saturday, Mahathir jibed that relations between the two opposition parties are like brothers after PAS decided to give way to Umno by not fielding a candidate in the by-election. - Mkini
