After Dr M meeting, Anwar satisfied, Guan Eng says ’emotional’

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
PETALING JAYA: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim says the meeting he had with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad at his residence earlier today was “very good”.
While insisting he cannot elaborate on the matter, Anwar said he was impressed by the prime minister’s attitude and stand on the issue of the possible realignment of government.
“I just came from Mahathir’s residence to discuss several matters and I’m satisfied with his stand that the principle which we must prioritise is that the reform agenda must continue,” he told reporters at PKR’s headquarters here
He said Mahathir was insistent on not giving in to those who were attempting to take power without setting an “agenda of change”.
When asked if this was good news for PH, Anwar dodged the question and simply said, “I’ll speak to the media later”.
He maintained that he would not give in to those who want to betray the people’s mandate in the previous general elections.
Meanwhile, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the meeting with Mahathir was “very emotional”.
“It was a very emotional meeting,” he said without elaborating further.
Earlier today, Anwar and several PH leaders had gone to the Prime Minister’s Office hoping to meet Mahathir, only to find that the prime minister was not around.
They then left an hour later, heading to the prime minister’s residence.
Others at the PMO this morning were several members of the Cabinet including Anwar’s wife, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Lim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and PPBM Youth leader Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
Anwar is expected to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the Istana Negara later this afternoon.
PKR is holding a central leadership council meeting today, with deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali and those aligned to him noticeably absent.
Anwar arrived for the meeting at 12.40pm while others who were present include party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, vice-president Chang Lih Kang, Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh, Deputy Health Minister Lee Boon Chye and Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil. - FMT
