PETALING JAYA: The MPs aligned to sacked PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, who defected from PKR, are waiting to be interviewed by Yang di-Pertuan Agong to state their support for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
A media statement released Tuesday (Feb 25), signed by Azmin and 10 others, reiterated their support for Dr Mahathir as the prime minister for the full term.
"We have stated our stand in open and closed party meetings.
"Our actions (to leave the party) were based on the axis of the people's aspirations who want a stable government, strong unity and a focus on the efforts to repair and generate growth for a sustainable economy.
"We are confident we are actually the mandate given by the people in the last general elections. Our group is made up of different races, religions and regions.
"We are now awaiting our turn to have an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to be interviewed.
"The steps we have taken show positive and convincing developments. We will handle the related issues in stages accordingly," said the statement.
The statement was signed by MPs Azmin (Gombak), Zuraida Kamaruddin (Ampang), Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah (Indera Mahkota), Baru Bian (Selangau), Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar (Bandar Tun Razak), Datuk Mansor Othman (Nibong Tebal), Datuk Rashid Hasnoon (Batu Pahat), Datuk Seri Santhara Kumar (Segamat), Ali Biju (Saratok), Willie Mongin (Puncak Borneo) and Jonathan Yasin (Ranau).
On Monday (Feb 24), the 11 announced they were leaving PKR to form an independent bloc.
The 11 MPs held top positions in PKR and the government, and aligned to Azmin, against the faction of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. - FMT
