His Majesty The Agong May Have To Dissolve Parliament

Hmm…it looks like the mess is going to get even messier. This is the type of situation where the cure is going to be worse than the disease. Did I not tell you democracy sucks? The more freedom and the more choices you have the more problems you face. I wonder how China would solve this problem, or maybe they do not face such problems.

King to conduct one-to-one interviews with MPs over two days

(The Star) – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will be meeting all the Members of Parliament in one-to-one interviews to ascertain who commands the majority of support in the Dewan Rakyat.
Comptroller of the Royal Family and Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said His Majesty will be personally interviewing the MPs, one by one, over two days to get views and feedback from each of them on the country’s political developments.
“All the Members of Parliament are invited to attend a personal interview with the King. The interview will be simple, conducted in two to three minutes.”
“The interview process will be conducted personally by the King himself, and will be witnessed by Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali.”
“All will be called (to meet the King), no one is exempted,” he said in a media briefing today.

His Majesty the Agong will ask the 222 MPs three questions

That was what The Star reported today (and the interviews are ongoing as you read this).
Sin Chew Daily News, in turn, reported that a total of three questions will be posed to each of the 222 members of parliament (which is why the interview will take only two to three minutes).
First: Do you still stick to the Statutory Declaration (SD) you signed before?
Second: Do you think Parliament should be dissolved or a new government should be formed?
Third: Do you choose Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Anwar Ibrahim or Muhyiddin Yassin as the prime minister?
The MPs will be asked which of the three they want as PM8
So, there are three options open to the Agong.
First is allow Mahathir to continue as Prime Minister uninterrupted until GE15.
Second would be to replace him with someone else.
And third would be to dissolve parliament to make way from a new general election or GE15.
If, in His Majesty’s opinion, Mahathir (or Anwar, or Muhyiddin, etc.) commands the confidence of the majority of the house, then His Majesty can appoint that particular MP as the prime Minister. If, however, Mahathir (or anyone else) fails to garner the support of at least 112 MPs, then the only option left to His Majesty would be to dissolve parliament.

Muafakat Nasional will support Mahathir as PM8 if DAP is out of the government

It is said Muafakat Nasional does not want DAP in the government while Mahathir cannot abandon DAP for obvious reasons.
PAS does not expect to be in the federal government and is prepared to support Mahathir to remain as PM as long as DAP is out. If not, then PAS would rather go for a dissolution.
Umno will support Mahathir if they can be part of the new federal government (and maybe even four new state governments: Kedah, Perak, Melaka and Johor) but they do not want DAP in. And DAP, in turn, wants nothing to do with Umno (so the hatred is mutual).

GPS will support Mahathir as long as PPBM and/or Pakatan Harapan stays out of Sarawak

Sabah and Sarawak will support Mahathir if they can get an assurance that Pakatan Harapan and/or PPBM will stay put in West Malaysia and will not come into East Malaysia and ‘disturb’ their territory.
With so many interests to consider, Mahathir may not get his majority and His Majesty the Agong may have to dissolve parliament to make way for GE15. And if that happens then three new coalitions may have to be formed to face the new general election (those who support DAP, those who oppose DAP, and those who oppose both groups).
