Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador has confirmed the arrest of four cops yesterday over extortion amounting to RM3 million from a Taiwanese businessperson.
The action came after a Taiwanese man, arrested on drug charges, proceeded to file a report against the cops after he and his accomplices were arrested and a drug processing laboratory in Cheras linked to him was busted last week, despite "paying off" the former, reported Malay Mail.
"We have identified those (cops) who are involved in this irresponsible act.
"There is no compromise. What they did was without the sanction of their senior officers...nobody will get away from the investigation," Abdul Hamid (photo) told the media in Kuala Lumpur.
Earlier today, Malay Mail reported that the four were identified as an inspector, two detective corporals, and a corporal attached to the Selangor CID serious crimes division.
Hamid said the police have yet to retrieve the RM3 million as the investigation is still in the preliminary stage.
The English daily reported that the suspects had initially demanded RM5 million in cash from the man and his Malaysian friend after they "raided" the apartment where the lab was on Feb 8.
However, the man only managed to pay RM3 million, which was handed over to the suspects who left in two unmarked police cars.
He decided to file a report against the suspects after the police raided the apartment four days later. - Mkini
