KOTA KINABALU: The people should be the ones to decide on who they want as their government and prime minister in view of the current political impasse, says opposition Sabah STAR president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan (pic).
The Keningau MP said Parliament should also be dissolved, as whatever temporary solution is taken to resolve the current political situation, it is unlikely to satisfy all sides particularly the rakyat.
"Let the people decide," he said in a statement here on Wednesday (Feb 26).
Kitingan said the interim solution should only be taken to give way and to prepare for the ultimate solution.
"For now, give the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong the space to do his work to decide who should be given the responsibility for this transition," he said.
He said whatever the solution, the inclusion of Sabah and Sarawak must be an important and integral part of it.
Kitingan said it needs no reminder that Sabah and Sarawak are equal partners in the formation of Malaysia and without them, there is no Malaysia.
"For Sabahans and Sarawakians, the ongoing political impasse has shown how important it is for them to elect Members of Parliament who truly look after the interests of their homelands," he said.
He said the elected representatives should not be those tied to their parties especially non-local ones and those who are subservient to their political masters or their own self-interests. - Star
