KUALA LUMPUR: Several members of Parliament are expected to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara, here, this morning.
This is believed to be for the purpose of stating where they stand in an effort to form a new federal government following the resignation of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister yesterday and the dissolution of the Cabinet.
They will be meeting the King in stages, with the first group made up of MPs from Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) as well as MPs from Peninsular Malaysia at 11am.
The second group will involve MPs from Sabah and Sarawak at 2pm.
Al-Sultan Abdullah yesterday cancelled the appointments of all ministers on the advice of the prime minister, in accordance with Article (43)(5) of the Federal Constitution.
The King also appointed Dr Mahathir as interim PM, pending the appointment of a new prime minister. NST
In unprecedented move, Agong to interview each MP to determine who commands majority
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will interview all MPs one by one to ascertain who commands the majority of the Dewan Rakyat to become the next prime minister
Comptroller of the Royal Family and Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said in a special media briefing at Istana Negara today that 90 MPs have already been called to the palace starting 2.30 pm.
The rest of them will be called tomorrow.
“The interview process will be done by the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, his majesty himself, and will be accompanied by Chief Secretary Datuk Seri Zuki Mohd Ali,” he told the press.
Ahmad Fadil said the process will be done under Article 43(2) of the Federal Constitution, which handles the formation of the Cabinet. MALAY MAIL
Political crisis: Day 3 – Istana Negara
KUALA LUMPUR: All eyes are now on Istana Negara as members of Parliament are expected to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
They are expected to meet the King in two groups to state their support in order to facilitate the formation of a new government.
Chief Justice Tan Sri Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat arrived at the palace for an audience with the King at 10.30am.
Arriving after her were Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah at 10.45am, followed by Attorney-General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas at 10.47am.
Sri Gading MP Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh was seen arriving at Istana Negara at 11.05am.
Shahruddin, from Bersatu, is a former Federal Territories deputy minister. NST
