Mujahid regrets Nur Sajat's choice of attire during umrah

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof has expressed regret over actions by cosmetics entrepreneur Nur Sajat, who was seen on social media dressed in telekung (female prayer garb) while performing umrah.
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said that Nur Sajat's actions can cause an issue between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.
"I am getting more information on what Nur Sajat allegedly did, but we can see that his actions have caused anger and concern among the public," he said after a "maqasid syariah" (objectives of Islamic principles) townhall session with Health Ministry's staff on Monday (Feb 3).
Mujahid was commenting on viralled photos of Nur Sajat in a telekung while performing umrah, whereas photos of him at KLIA when leaving for Saudi Arabia showed him in male attire.
A copy of Nur Sajat's passport that is also being viralled states his name as Muhammad Sajjad Kamaruz Zaman and the gender as male.
Mujahid said he would also be talking to the travel agent who organised Nur Sajat's umrah to seek some answers.
"I am sure that the travel agency is aware that Nur Sajat is a controversial person. I don't know what kind of assurance he had given the company to bring him for this trip," he said.
The minister is aware that Nur Sajat's alleged actions to put on the telekung has angered the public.
"By doing this, he has encroached areas only meant for women, especially when it comes to performing prayers," he said.
Mujahid, who was informed that Nur Sajat is still in Saudi Arabia, has advised the entrepreneur to go back to wearing male attire.
"Please return to your fitrah asal (natural origin), respect others, respect the religion and respect the laws of the country you are visiting," he said. - Star
