The Calibre Of The Judges

First off allow me to congratulate Shafee Abdullah.
Todate he has been able to win so many postponements from the Court.
This latest postponement of the Najib trial for two weeks based on the most feeble excuses is another tribute to Shafee's legal machinations.
I am sure Shafee himself never really expected the judge to grant this long a postponement to accomodate a wedding !!

It was a worthwhile fishing expedition.

During the Rear Admiral's trials all those years ago, the defense lawyers even got the case postponed because of the "floods in Australia" !!

But this is the first time I am seeing a case being postponed for so long NOT because Najib is getting married, Rosmah is getting her face fixed or something like that.

This time it is the defense lawyer's son who is getting married.
What an excuse. And it was granted by the Court.

Here is the news:

Najib's 1MDB trial, pushed to March 2 due to wedding of lead counsel's son

DPP from MACC confirmed this in a short text message to The Star

"Yes, we continue on March 2," he said

Justice Collin Sequerah, presiding, agreed to vacate hearing dates

in separate SRC trial Shafee told Justice Nazlan he would be seeking postponement

My son's wedding moved earlier to Thurs (Feb 20)

I did not know that I would be involved

(OSTB :  Huh?? He did not know he would be involved in his son's wedding?

1MDB trial last convened on Nov 13  last year
postponed when 1MDB CEO Shahrol Halmi and Shafee on sick leave

My comments  :  The other day we found out that in the other Rosmah trial, the Court had been concluding proceedings at 2pm - to accomodate Rosmah's request.

As I said will the Court grant that type of license to any bodoh hodoh hoi polloi ?
Or is such license only reserved for the Rosmahs of the c---pool?

I would like to ask the Judges - whether it is the Collin fellow or the Nazlan fellow or whoever - before you granted this postponement did you ask the lawyer Shafee

1. if he was postponing all his other Court appearances or
2. ONLY this case on account of the son's wedding?
3. is Shafee's law office also closed / not functioning for the same two week period?
4. meaning do the staff get two weeks leave as well?
5. meaning Shafee will not be working / going to the office / meeting clients for the two weeks ?

Because if Shafee is still able to keep his other Court appointments (worse case by sending another lawyer from his office), or meet old clients, meet new clients, go to the office at ANYTIME during those two weeks, if his staff are all coming to work as usual over the two weeks,  then it means that he is still able to function as a practising lawyer.

So did the Court ascertain all this before granting a two week postponement?

The Star's report above quotes Shafee :

My son's wedding moved earlier to Thurs (Feb 20)
I did not know that I would be involved

From not knowing if he would be involved it looks like now Shafee will indeed be involved.  For two weeks.

Mariam Mokhtar also makes a brilliant suggestion (which the judges' should have  considered) :   "Shafee has three wives. Why can’t the wives and in-laws play happy families and help-out in the preparations?"

The other point Mariam points out is that the son's wedding will be on the 20th February, 2020. That is the day after tomorrow. Why postpone the trial until March 2nd?

Ultimately the Pakatan Haprak looks haprak.  Not Shafee and not Najib.

People will begin wondering again if  the judiciary is indeed independent?

People will start questioning if there are any chess games going on ?

Other people who are charged with corruption get arrested, kept in the lock up, their trials are expedited or not delayed for so many times. Etc etc.

Why the glaring differences for these two culprits?

If you ask me I would say that things do not seem right in the way the trials are being conducted, especially in the many delays and postponements.

Remember the postponement because his dog bit his hand?
His dog was not man's best friend.
Our dogs are indeed man's best friends.

Did Shafee get the anti-rabies jab?
Did it work?
