It's not a one-way ticket as claimed by Kinabatangan MP, says MAS

PETALING JAYA: The screenshot posted on Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin's Twitter account is not a one-way ticket as claimed, says Malaysia Airlines (MAS).
The airline clarified that the screenshot of the travel fare between Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah was actually a return Business Class fare.
"Malaysia Airlines wishes to clarify that the screenshot shared by Bung on his Twitter account on July 16 at 5.29pm was of a 'return Business Class fare' between Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu, and not a one-way fare as stated.
"The fare takes into consideration the date of travel which is immediate departure during peak period such as weekends and is comparable with other available fares in the market," said the airlines in a statement on Friday (July 17).
The Sabah Umno chief had expressed his shock at the price of the ticket in a tweet on his official account.
"I know many airlines are facing losses during the current Covid-19 pandemic that has affected the whole world.
"This also includes British Airways that is facing bankruptcy, and others are also struggling like Virgin Air and Ravneir Air (sic).
"But it does not make sense that Malaysia Airlines was charging such a price. It's hard to believe, ” he said, posting a screenshot showing a fare of RM4,499.32 on Friday.
Malaysia Airlines in the statement also reiterated its commitment in its role to facilitate travel domestically and internationally despite the general weak demand in air travel.
"Airlines drive optimisation of fares based on available capacity and demand, and we are cognisant of pricing fares more competitively for the benefit of customers while balancing the need to cover the cost of operating a flight," added the airlines. - Star
