Sri Gading MP Shahruddin Salleh’s Bersatu membership has been stripped after he notified the Dewan Rakyat that he would no longer sit with the government bloc.
“On July 10, 2020, Bersatu has confirmed that Sri Gading MP Shahruddin had issued a notice to the Dewan Rakyat speaker that he would no longer sit with the government bloc led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin who is also the Bersatu president and acting chairperson.
“As such, it is informed that Shahruddin’s (above) membership has been stripped immediately according to Clause 10.2.2 and 10.2.3 of the Bersatu constitution.
“Bersatu thanks him for all his contributions during his time with Bersatu,” said Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainuddin in a statement today.
He also warned other Bersatu members who support former party leaders who have lost their memberships as well against participating in campaigns meant to damage the party’s image.
Hamzah said the party will not hesitate to take strict disciplinary action against any members who violate the party constitution.
Shahruddin resigned from his deputy works minister's post on June 4, amid turmoil in Bersatu between former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin.
