PETALING JAYA: The police may consider reclassifying an investigation into a commotion at a Muda dinner on Saturday as a case of assault instead of an offence under the Peaceful Assembly Act.
Yesterday Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz had said the incident involved assault and battery.
In response, Johor police chief Kamarul Zaman Mamat told FMT that the matter will be discussed with his officers tomorrow.
Amira appealed to the police to thoroughly investigate the incident to provide confidence to the public, especially the Muar folks who would attend Muda events during the election campaign in the near future.
“There were injuries and property damage. The victims are still affected. I urge the police to show seriousness to give confidence to the public. The assurance has to come from the police,” she had said.
The police had received four police reports in regard to the incident.
Among the injured was Sabah Muda chairperson Amos Thien, while the car of party vice-president Lim Wei Jiet was damaged.
This was Muda’s second incident this month. Seven days ago, a group of rowdy youths heckled Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman during his speech at a ceramah, also in Muar. - FMT
