Fahmi: Many things caretaker cabinet can't do, not just policy decisions

 

It is not just policy decisions that the cabinet of the caretaker government cannot decide on, said PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil.

Among others, the caretaker cabinet currently cannot sign any project contracts, especially big-scale or public interest projects, and the ministers and deputy ministers must return government assets, he said.

Aside from that, they also cannot use government machinery for electoral campaigning or announce any “election goodies”.

“These principles should be the pillars of this caretaker government, especially to avoid abuse of power, corruption, and wrongful perception,” Fahmi (above) said in a posting on Facebook today.

Yesterday, Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali said the cabinet led by Ismail Sabri Yaakob will continue to function as a caretaker government and cabinet meetings can continue to be held as usual despite the dissolution of Parliament.

However, he said, the cabinet cannot decide on policy matters although the cabinet can still advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on matters related to the administration of the country.

Caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri had yesterday afternoon announced the dissolution of Parliament, paving the way for the 15th general election, which must be held within 60 days of the announcement. - Mkini
