Flood polls show govt's cynical priorities

Decision time is around the corner for us to vote in people who we can place our trust in and who can have the competence to really move our nation forward.

It is certainly regrettable that the powers that be have chosen to hold the 15th general election during the flood season.

There will be problems pertaining to the flooded areas around schools and other places designated as polling stations.

Some voters will also be unable to cast their votes because of the floods, thereby denying them their democratic rights.

Has the government worked out other options and alternatives? Or is it going to be a repeat of the last massive floods, whereby the rakyat had to rely on community help to reach those stranded?

For that matter, is the government even ready to face and manage the floods? Or is the government too preoccupied with its political interests and does not have the mechanisms and human resources in place to assist the rakyat?

It seems clear that politics and positions are prioritised well above the interests of the rakyat.

Now, it appears to be the time for political musical chairs, transactional politics and fishing for votes, power-grabbing, and doing whatever it takes to hang on to power.

It appears that even the 2023 budget presented last week, with all its goodies and promises, will not even take effect.

Clearly, that was not a budget. It was an election manifesto for the government, promising anything and everything that can garner votes.

That was indeed very cunning and seemed pre-planned.

May the Almighty save us and our nation, Malaysia. - Mkini
