TUMPAT: Those who lost their identity cards in the recent floods will get replacement cards as soon as possible to enable them to vote in the coming 15th General Election (GE15).
National Registration Department director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said the process is expected to be completed within half an hour after the application was made.
He said the replacement was needed not only for voting purposes but also for other important matters.
"All our branches in the state will be mobilised to flood-prone areas with other relevant agencies to assist those who have lost their documents to get their new cards.
"It will normally take about 30 minutes to complete the process. This is a must so that they can cast their votes during the coming election.
"All the flood victims in the recent disasters in Yan, Kedah and Hulu Langat, Selangor, have received their replacements.
"The replacement was free and this aimed at easing their burden," he told reporters after handing over an identity card and birth certificate to Wan Nab Ismail, 83, in Kampung Laut here today.
He urged those who have yet to replace their identity cards to do so as soon as possible at the nearest NRD office. - NST
