GE15 right time for Perakians to 'end' Anwar's political career - Umno leader

The 15th general election (GE15) is the perfect opportunity for Perakians to "end" the political career of Pakatan Harapan chief Anwar Ibrahim, said an Umno leader.

"Anwar has done nothing in Tambun, Perak, and he is not an asset that must be handed a victory.

"In fact, this (election) is the best chance for the locals (Perakians and those from Tambun) to end his political life. Let Tambun be the point where Anwar loses his influence," Umno supreme council member Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said in a recent statement on Facebook.

This came following Perak Harapan chairperson Mujahid Yusof Rawa’s remark that Perakians were "lucky" that Anwar, who is also PKR president, will be contesting in the state.

This is because the state has never had a lawmaker who had gone on to become a prime minister, the Amanah vice-president was quoted as saying by Malaysia Gazette.

Three-way contest will benefit Umno

Shamsul further reminded that voters should not only cause Anwar's defeat but that of Bersatu as well.

"Defeating Anwar does not equate to Bersatu's victory, as that party needs to be defeated too.

"We are confident that a three-way contest will benefit the Umno/BN candidate. I am confident that Anwar's presence will motivate the Perak/Tambun BN/Umno machinery to work harder," he added.

Shamsul said Harapan leaders are always changing the constituency they contest in as they do not serve their constituents.

"I hope the voters see that the Harapan leadership, including Anwar, always change the constituency they contest in every election, as they do not serve the constituency they previously won... that is why they change places.

“(For instance) Anwar from Port Dickson to Tambun. So hope the voters in Tambun will not make the same mistake (of voting for Anwar)," he added.

Shamsul urged Malaysians to reject Anwar and Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, as both the leaders have immensely caused "losses" to the country.

For the record, Anwar last week bid farewell to his incumbent seat in Port Dickson and confirmed that he would be contesting in Tambun in GE15. - Mkini
