No dissolution of PAS states, Hadi vows to bolster ties with PN

PAS remains steadfast in its decision to not dissolve the legislative assemblies of the three states led by the Islamist party.

Party president Abdul Hadi Awang said PAS will instead strengthen cooperation within Perikatan Nasional (PN) to face the looming general election.

“This is on the principle of the ummah unity.

“We remain steadfast not to dissolve Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah’s state assemblies,” he said in a statement. The decision on the three state assemblies was made after a PAS central committee meeting today.

Hadi (above) also said that PAS is finalising the discussion on seat negotiation with PN.

“The list of candidates from the states needs to be presented for evaluation by the syura ulama council.

Previously, PAS said three states under its administration would not dissolve their state assemblies to coincide with the general election.

Aside from the need to focus on preparations for the monsoon season expected from mid-November until March 2023, Hadi said it would be prudent to emphasise efforts and measures for economic recovery post-Covid-19.

In a special address on Monday, caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament and urged all state governments apart from Sabah, Sarawak, Malacca, and Johor to dissolve their respective legislative assemblies soon to pave way for polls to be held concurrently.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi

On a related matter, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in a statement this evening, interpreted Hadi’s statement as PAS had decided to close its door to cooperating with his party and BN.

"PAS central committee's decision to continue with PN to GE15 was expected.

"The fact is, Umno has never closed its door to any noble effort towards ummah unity based on the values of sincerity and honesty.

"With this decision, Umno and BN will continue to go solo by maintaining the party‘s image which outlines moderation and capable to offer stability and prosperity to multiracial and multi-ethnic societies in the country," he said.

Meanwhile, PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin expressed his appreciation for PAS' decision to strengthen cooperation in the coalition to face GE15.

"This has given PN a spirit booster to move in a more organised and united manner to garner the support of the people," he said in a statement.

"Personally, I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the comradeship spirit shown by Hadi and PAS leadership who continue to defend their cooperation in PN," he said.

Muhyiddin prayed that PN will be able to get the people's mandate and form the next government that is focused on the well-being and prosperity of the people. - Mkini
