Task force report on Thomas' book will be declassified

The report on Putrajaya's investigation into former attorney-general Tommy Thomas' book will be declassified.

In a statement today, caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision was made by cabinet on Sept 30.

However, Ismail Sabri did not reveal how or when the document will be made available.

Last December, the cabinet set up a task force to probe Thomas’ book titled ‘My Story: Justice in the Wilderness’.

The book covered Thomas’ stint as attorney-general from 2018 to 2020. Among others, he addressed the appointment of judges, alleged interference by the executive in the judiciary and claims of selective prosecution.

The task force was headed by former Sarawak attorney-general Fong Joo Chung.

Other members were former civil servants Hashim Paijan and Junaidah Kamarudin, former judge Jagjit Singh Bant Singh, and lawyers Shaharudin Ali and K Balaguru.

On Sept 30, Ismail Sabri announced the cabinet has ordered enforcement agencies to act on recommendations contained in the investigation report.

This includes probing Thomas under Sedition Act 1948, Officials Secrets Act 1972 and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009. - Mkini
