PETALING JAYA
Police have launched an investigation into yet another bullying case at the National Defence University (UPNM) after a 19-year-old cadet was allegedly stomped on by a senior.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said the incident occurred on Oct 21 at 10.45pm, while the victim was near a field after a roll call.

“The victim reportedly suffered cracks on his ribs and spine as a result of being stomped on by a senior at the university who is in his third year.

“The victim is currently being treated at the hospital,” he said in a statement.

A police report on the incident was only lodged on Nov 8.

The case is being probed under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt, which is punishable by up to seven years’ imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.

Rusdi said the case is still being probed and urged the public against speculating on the incident.

This is the second reported case of assault involving UPNM cadets in October.

Last Friday, Amirul Iskandar Norhanizan, 22, claimed trial to assaulting Salman Saiful Surash, 20, by placing a hot iron on his chest at the UPNM hostel on Oct 22.

The victim suffered second degree burns on his chest.

Amirul faces a maximum jail term of 10 years or a fine, and could also be whipped, if convicted.

A more prominent case involved the death of navy cadet Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain, who was killed at UPNM’s Jebat hostel on May 22, 2017.

In July, the Court of Appeal found six ex-UPNM students guilty of murdering Zulfarhan, overturning the High Court’s reduced charge for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

They were handed the death sentence by the appeals court. - FMT
