PETALING JAYA: Selangor DAP’s new leadership will hold discussions to determine what role former chairman Gobind Singh Deo can play in the state party, his successor Ng Sze Han said.
Ng thanked Gobind for helming Selangor DAP for two terms and for his immense contributions to the state party, Berita Harian reported.
At the state party elections today, Gobind received 675 votes to finish in 16th place. He said he accepted the grassroots’ decision and was confident the new leadership could strengthen the party.
Ng said Gobind was behind Selangor DAP’s strong performance at the last general election, and played a key role in Selangor DAP’s success at the Selangor state assembly elections last year and the Kuala Kubu Bharu by-election in May.
“Additionally, he succeeded in helping Selangor DAP increase the number of its state executive councillors from three to four, which is a significant contribution. We value Gobind’s dedication and contribution, and we will decide on his future role at a later date,” said Ng, who is Kinrara assemblyman and a state executive councillor.
Gobind, who is Damansara MP and digital minister, said he remains dedicated to Selangor DAP and will cooperate with the newly elected 15-member committee.
“I see that the new state leadership consists of people with good leadership qualities, and they will be able to steer Selangor DAP in the right direction,” he said. “I accept this decision… and I am also willing to work with them if required.” - FMT
