The MACC has grilled a former aide of Najib Abdul Razak overnight over his alleged involvement in an extortion case from an independent preacher.
This comes after the anti-graft agency arrested three men, including a supporter of the former prime minister, two days ago for allegedly being involved in the same case.
A source confirmed with Malaysiakini that the man arrived at the Alor Setar MACC office yesterday to record his statement, only to leave the premises earlier today.
The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act which covers any person who corruptly solicits or accepts or agrees to accept for himself or any other person any gratification.
Two days ago, MACC arrested three individuals in Kedah for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes from a celebrity preacher who is also a tahfiz school headmaster.
The Alor Setar Magistrate’s Court issued a four-day remand order on the trio to facilitate investigations.
In a video sighted by Malaysiakini, the political activist claimed he was framed.
“I will fight this. It’s a lie and I got framed. I will be lodging a police report,” he said while being escorted by MACC officers. - Mkini
