KOTA KINABALU: Police have detained 21 teenagers involved in a brawl that resulted in injuries near a futsal court close to a secondary school.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Kasim Muda confirmed that the individuals are Form Four and Five secondary school students.
The teenagers were taken into custody on Thursday (Nov 21) and have been released on police bail.
"The incident was sparked by a misunderstanding related to an earlier dispute," Kasim said in a statement on Friday (Nov 22).
He noted that the victim was assaulted by a group and sustained injuries to several parts of the body before being taken to the hospital for examination.
Investigations are ongoing under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, Kasim added.
"Efforts are continuing to complete the investigation papers," he said.
A blurry video of the school students fighting at a futsal court went viral on social media, with some still wearing their uniforms.
The incident is believed to have occurred at a multi-purpose futsal court in Kampung Tebobon, Menggatal.
A photo of a victim with a head injury, allegedly sustained while attempting to break up the fight, also went viral. - Star
