PETALING JAYA
Police collected a total of RM1.03 million from 11,600 traffic summonses on the first day of the 60% discount offer held in conjunction with the unity government’s second anniversary celebrations, which began today.

Federal traffic police chief Yusri Hassan Basri said that the amount was the total collected up to 3pm today from almost 3,000 visitors.

“We are using this anniversary celebration and the 2024 national convention on civil service reform as benchmarks for future expansion of this initiative across the nation,” he was quoted by Harian Metro as saying.

“We hope the public will settle their summonses as soon as possible to avoid legal action, such as the issuance of arrest warrants or penalties.”

Yusri added that the nationwide initiative might begin next month. Discussions are being held on whether to maintain the 60% discount rate or lower it to 50% or 30%.

Discounts of up to 60% on traffic summonses will be offered this weekend at the unity government’s second anniversary celebrations at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Home ministry official Fairul Nizam Che Rus said that the discount offered at the first-anniversary celebration last year was 50%.

He said 25 payment counters would be open from 9am to 6pm from Friday to Sunday. - FMT
