Riyadh summit: Mosques under Jakim to hold special prayers for PM

Three mosques under the purview of the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) have been asked to hold solat hajat (prayers of need) to pray for the success of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s mission, as he represents Malaysia at the Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit in Riyadh on Nov 11.

In a statement yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said this call was especially directed to the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, as well as the Putra Mosque and Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque in Putrajaya.

They have been asked to hold the solat hajat after the Isyak prayers until next Monday.

Other mosques and surau in the Federal Territories are also encouraged to hold the prayers during the same period.

“The department wishes to express its full support for the prime minister’s firm stance in bringing forth the motion to stop Israel's atrocities against Palestine at the Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit.

“The purpose of this solat hajat is to seek Allah's blessings and protection so that the prime minister's mission will be successful and bring benefit to the nation and the ummah,” he said.

Na’im said the special prayer is hoped to strengthen the solidarity of Muslims across the country and unite the hearts of Malaysians in praying for the success of this important mission.

He said Anwar will convey the voice and hopes of the nation on the international stage at this summit, which is expected to address critical issues involving Islamic countries.

“The department is also calling on all Muslims to join in this special prayer as a sign of support and solidarity with our leader and to also pray for the well-being of the Malaysian Battalion (Malbatt) troops serving in Lebanon.

“May Allah bless our efforts, and may Malaysia continue to remain peaceful and prosperous under His protection,” he said.
