KUALA LUMPUR: The legal counsel representing Datuk Albert Tei, Mahajoth Singh, said the police statement regarding the case in which firearms were allegedly pointed at Tei and his family during a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) raid was premature, as statements from key witnesses had not yet been recorded.
Any assertion that there was "no evidence to support the allegation" that firearms were aimed at Tei and his family during the Nov 28 raid was therefore premature and unjustified, Mahajoth added.
He said the statement issued by Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar on Dec 15 was released before police had recorded statements from material witnesses who were present during the incident.
Mahajoth said the witnesses — Tei's wife, mother-in-law, and domestic helper — only had their statements taken yesterday during a questioning session at his client's residence. - NST
