PKR drops Shamsul as Malacca chief, Adam Adli to replace him

 


Amid an ongoing corruption trial, PKR has replaced Shamsul Iskandar Akin, former senior political secretary to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as the party's Malacca chief.

PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said the party's political bureau has named Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim to lead the Malacca state leadership council in an acting capacity.

Adam, the Hang Tuah Jaya MP, is also Malacca PKR deputy chairperson.

"He (Adam) will serve as acting chair of the Malacca council with effect from Dec 15.

"Shamsul’s position as Hang Tuah Jaya PKR division chief remains unchanged," Fuziah said in a statement today.

On Dec 4, Shamsul (aboveclaimed trial in a Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to four charges of taking RM176,830 in bribes from businessperson Albert Tei.

He is accused of taking kickbacks in his capacity as Anwar's political secretary at the time, to help Tei's companies obtain mineral mining licences in Sabah.

Tei was also charged with offering the bribes.

Ensuring stability

In response to his appointment, Adam noted the decision was made through a collective resolution and is temporary in nature, to allow Shamsul to resolve his legal process.

"During this period, my priority is to ensure that the stability and organisational discipline of the party remain intact, while also strengthening early preparations for the upcoming Malacca state election.

"With the cooperation of leaders at all levels and the grassroots, the party will continue to move forward in an organised and disciplined manner, remaining focused on the interests of the people and grounded in the principle of justice for all," he said. - Mkini
