Paris' Louvre Museum was closed today as staff went on strike to protest deteriorating working conditions, reported the German Press Agency.
It is unclear how long the walkout will last. The museum stated on its website that it was currently inaccessible due to industrial action, apologising to visitors for the inconvenience. The trade unions say the strike is indefinite.
Employees are protesting staff shortages and insufficient resources. Their demands include additional staff at the reception area and in security.
The strike follows a series of incidents at the world-famous museum. In October, crown jewels worth around €88 million (about US$103 million) were stolen, and in November, a gallery had to close due to dilapidated structural supports.
At the beginning of December, a water leak caused damage to 300 to 400 specialist journals and documents in the library of Egyptian antiquities.
