PETALING JAYA: The new Cabinet line-up, set to fill existing vacancies, is expected to be announced on Tuesday (Dec 16), according to sources.
Earlier, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted an audience to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Istana Negara today.
Anwar had previously said the new appointments would be decided after careful consideration, based on the people’s interests and the nation’s reform agenda.
"This afternoon I will make a special announcement regarding the Madani Government Cabinet.
“The Madani Government will continue to prioritise strengthening governance and enhancing policy implementation effectiveness for the well-being of the people and the country," he posted on his official Facebook page.
He also said it would not be a major Cabinet reshuffle but to fill several vacant ministerial posts.
According to him, current considerations show there is no need for sweeping changes as the Madani government’s current term has only about a year and a half left.
Currently, there are four vacancies in the Cabinet, with the portfolios being managed temporarily by other ministers.
The vacant positions are: Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister, Economy Minister, Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister.
