VISIT Malaysia Year 2026 is around the corner and for Selangor it will be a continuation of Visit Selangor Year 2025/26.
Selangor continues to draw a large number of tourists annually as the state stands out for its various attractions ranging from historical sites to modern amenities that make a Selangor vacation a pleasant and memorable one.
Being in close vicinity to Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya also adds a spillover effect on the number of visitors who take the opportunity to visit many areas of Selangor. For Visit Malaysia Year 2026 Selangor needs to enhance its efforts to get a bigger slice of the tourists visiting the country.
The VMY26 has been widely promoted and advertised and the various incentives provided by the federal government will surely increase the volume of tourists.
As such the work is both easy and tough for Selangor tourism promoters: easy because a lot of tourists will be coming to the country and also visit the state, and tough because Selangor has to compete with other states who will be wooing the tourists to come and visit their states.
As such advertising, marketing and promoting Selangor will have to be strong and compelling. Selangor needs to showcase its various attractions more aggressively to reach out to tourists as there will be tough competition by other states too to draw the tourists.
Therefore, Selangor needs to do something different to catch the eye of the tourists. One way is to showcase district tourism by promoting the various and unique features of Selangor’s nine districts which consists of urban, suburban and rural districts.
Selangor being the most multi-racial and diverse encapsulates the tourism tagline of “Malaysia Truly Asia!”. Tourists can witness traditional and modern settings within a few miles of each another.
District tourism will enable the tourists to savour the various draws of a particular district with its distinctive villages, towns, and cities. This will also help the local authorities to focus more on enhancing the facilities and the general upkeep of the surroundings.
A district by district approach will also enable the local authorities to do the needful as some tourist attractions need a facelift to create a good impression with the visitors and tourists, whether domestic or foreign. A spring cleaning of all district tourism sites should be undertaken before the new year and contractors should be monitored to ensure that they do the work competently and efficiently.
A Selangor multi-page district tourism calendar or a large poster can be printed and distributed or sold to the tourists and others at a reasonable price. Calendars are hard to come by nowadays and an attractive Selangor Tourism Calendar could be a hit with the public.
The calendar and posters should feature the tourist attractions and landmarks of Selangor’s nine districts. The first page of the calendar could feature the various palaces of the Selangor Sultan and the Selangor administrative centres followed by the tourist attractions of each and every district in Selangor.
One page can feature the various houses of worship in Selangor. Next year’s Open Houses should be highlighted and travel and tour (T&T) firms, on behalf of the Selangor government and local authorities, could invite tourists visiting the state during the festive celebrations like Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali and Christmas to share the Malaysian goodwill.
The Open House is a unique feature of Malaysia and tourists should be made aware of this. For district tourism to be effectively advertised and promoted the travel and tour firms in the particular districts can be roped in and made aware of the tourism programmes and plans by both the Selangor government and the local authorities.
These firms can provide the inputs and feedback on the tourism promotion programmes and enhance their effectiveness in meeting the targets and objectives.
The district travel and tour firms can play a vital role in ensuring the growth and success of tourism in Selangor, which is an important component of the Selangor economy bringing in billions of ringgit in revenue.
