GEORGE TOWN: Police have detained a couple, caught on viral video, allegedly engaging in an indecent act naked in a cemetery here.
State police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the couple, in their 30s and 50s, was picked up yesterday around George Town.
"We have detained the couple around George Town last night.
"Initial checks showed both are not husband and wife," he told the New Straits Times.
Yesterday, the NST reported that police are probing a video showing a couple allegedly engaging in an indecent act naked in a cemetery.
Azizee said the incident is being investigated under Sections 294 and 509 of the Penal Code.
Section 294 deals with public nuisance and indecency, while Section 509 is a primary provision against sexual harassment and verbal or gestural abuse.
A 38-second video has gone viral showing a man standing naked with his back to the camera, while a partially undressed woman sits on a tombstone.
The woman filming confronts them, saying they have been spotted there before.
As the clip goes on, the man is seen putting on his trousers.
The woman filming the whole scene reprimands them, stressing that a cemetery is meant to honor the deceased.
Although the man apologises, the woman dismisses it and warns that the matter will be reported to the police. - NST
