Witness: No medication given to Zara during initial emergency treatment
KOTA KINABALU: The Coroner’s Court heard that Zara Qairina Mahathir was not given any medication, including phenytoin, during her initial emergency treatment by an assistant medical officer.

Mohd Faiszal Md Saimi testified that during his management of the unconscious patient, priority was given to airway, breathing, and circulation, rather than drug administration.

He said he was not authorised to administer most medications without a doctor’s approval, except for limited Class C drugs, and that phenytoin is a controlled drug used only in specific seizure cases after first-line treatment like diazepam.

He also stated the patient showed no signs of seizures at the time.
Earlier testimony noted no common drugs were detected in the post-mortem, though phenytoin was found in kidney tissue.

The inquest continues on Thursday. - dailysexpresssabah
