FAM responds to angry fans over Asean Cup ticket prices

KUALA LUMPUR: FAM has defended its ticket prices for Malaysia's Hyundai Asean Cup semi-final against Vietnam following criticism from fans after a sharp increase.

The open-category adult tickets for Sunday's first-leg clash at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium have been priced at RM50, up nearly 70 per cent from RM30 for the group stage.

Grandstand tickets are priced at RM70 and VIP tickets at RM100, while open-category tickets for children remain unchanged at RM5.

The increase sparked fans' criticism of FAM, with some questioning whether RM50 was appropriate for a match at KLFA Stadium.

Several argued that the price would have been more acceptable had the match been staged at the larger National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

Responding to the criticism, FAM said today that several factors had been taken into consideration when setting ticket prices for the semi-final.

These included organisational, operational and security costs, venue management and the technical requirements of staging the competition.

FAM added that supporters' affordability and interests were also considered as they remained an important part of the national team's journey.

"The ticket prices were set by taking into account the balance between organisational costs and efforts to ensure national team matches remain accessible to Harimau Malaya supporters," FAM said in a statement.

"We hope supporters will understand the considerations behind the ticket pricing and continue to stand behind Harimau Malaya for the important match against Vietnam."
