PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across five states and the Federal Territory of Labuan, effective until 9am on Saturday (Oct 3).
In Peninsular Malaysia, the morning weather alert affects Sepang, Kuala Langat and Klang in Selangor, Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan, the entire state of Melaka, alongside Tangkak and Muar in Johor.
Over in East Malaysia, severe weather is forecast across several divisions in Sarawak, including Kabong, Pusa and Saratok in Betong; Sarikei in Sarikei; Tanjung Manis in Mukah; Bintulu in Bintulu; Limbang; Kapit, Bukit Mabong and Belaga in Kapit; as well as Sri Aman and Lubok Antu in Sri Aman.
In Sabah, the alert covers Beaufort, Kuala Penyu and Sipitang in Pedalaman, alongside WP Labuan.
MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.
The notice was officially issued by the department at 7am on Saturday.
