PKR's Sungai Kandis assemblyperson Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei died this morning, aged 50.
Economic Affairs Minister and PKR deputy president Mohamad Azmin Ali revealed the matter in a Facebook post.
"Al Fatihah. I am extremely saddened by the loss of a true friend, in our struggles.
"May the spirit of Shuhaimi Shafiei be placed in Heaven," Azmin posted.
Shuhaimi had served as Azmin's political secretary when the latter was Selangor menteri besar.
Meanwhile, current Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, in a statement, described Shuhaimi as a committed and responsible assemblyperson, who is well liked by his constituents.
"He was also a good friend of mine and a comrade in politics. His passing is a huge loss to the Selangor state government and PKR.
"The deceased's contributions to the rakyat and Selangor, are invaluable," he said.
Shuhaimi breathed his last at 11.10am at the Subang Jaya medical centre, due to complications from lymphoma.
Funeral prayers for Shuhaimi will be performed at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in Shah Alam before his remains laid to rest at Section 21 Muslim cemetery in Shah Alam, after Asar prayers. -Mkini
