DAP assemblyperson denies vandalising 'cult's' booth at Thaipusam site

A video clip showing several DAP leaders in Penang having an argument at a thaneer panthal (refreshment booth) set up by Swami Nithyananda followers at the annual Thaipusam site is being circulated on Whatsapp.
DAP Bagan Dalam assemblyperson Satees Muniandy (above), who was seen in the video, is accused of vandalising the booth but he has denied doing so.
A Whatsapp message accompanying the video also accused Satees and his companions Seberang Perai City councillors David Marshel and Jason Raj as having threatened the group with physical abuse and tearing down their banners.
When contacted, Satees denied carrying out any acts of vandalism, saying there was no physical contact during the incident but it was “just a normal shouting match”.

”The allegations are absolute lies.
”Yes, we confronted the followers for displaying the wanted criminal Nithyananda’s photo as a reincarnation of Lord Shiva," he said.
"I was walking out of the temple compound when I was approached by people who highlighted the existence of the booth that is recruiting people to Kailash - a fraudulent outfit of Nithyananda," Satees explained.
He has written an article earlier to urge the police to act against the group, which he described as a "cult".
He has also lodged a police report about the matter at the Bukit Mertajam police station.
Satees claimed many young people were lured into joining the cult, and there were complains of abduction, forceful capture of minors, and sexual abuse, while the police in India are looking for the self-styled holy man Nithyananda.
"We approached the booth, and told them not to continue to do this, as it is clearly causing annoyance to the Hindus".
Satees said the volunteers there then started getting agitated, and claimed that Nithyanandha (above) is a reincarnation of Lord Shiva, and insisted they will continue to portray him as such.
"As a Hindu myself, I can’t digest the fact that these group of people are insulting my religion, by equating God to a fraud who’s wanted for crimes in India.
"There were some heated arguments, but it did not get out of hand as portrayed," Satees said.
"No one was pushed or assaulted while the arguments went on.
"Eventually, the members themselves took down the banners and left the place," he added.
Satees said he will also be lodging a complaint with the Home Ministry about the group's activities in Malaysia.
He alleged possible international money laundering activities involved within the group.
"That’s what prompted them to come out with such lies, to discredit me, David and Jason."
Satees added that he confronted them because there was genuine concern among the Indians and Hindus that this group is targeting young girls and they’re belittling the religion by equating the Lord with the wanted criminal Nithyananda. - Mkini
