The Ministry of Education has begun an internal investigation to check whether all standard operating procedure (SOP) was followed during an archery practice at SMK Gurun, Kedah on Feb 6 which injured a student.
“The Ministry of Education (MOE) will not compromise should there be non-compliance by any party, especially during activities where sports equipment could cause injuries.
"Stern action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation to prevent recurrence of such incidents," the ministry said in a statement here today.
According to the statement, the victim was treated at a hospital and prompt action was taken at the school, district and state education office levels to assist the victim and his family in terms of welfare, counselling and insurance claims.
The ministry would give full cooperation to the police in the case and abide by all existing legal procedures, it added.
The statement also stated that the ministry would continue to remind sports coaches as well as teachers to always ensure that the safety and welfare of students is a priority before, during and after sports activities or training. - Bernama
