PETALING JAYA: Larry Sng insists he is still the president of Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) and will be signing the watikah (appointment letter of candidates) in the 15th general election (GE15).
“All previous announcements made by party leaders are just mere speculation,” the former Julau MP said in a Facebook post.
“The official announcement will be made by myself, and only I will sign the watikah for PBM in GE15.”
Stating that he had not resigned from his position or relinquished his party membership, Sng said that he would be contesting GE15 on PBM’s ticket.
When contacted, PBM secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad told FMT he would “look into the matter”.
“In the meantime, the party will focus on its preprations for GE15,” he said.
On Oct 8, FMT reported that Zuraida Kamaruddin was installed as PBM president, a week after the party’s inaugural general assembly unanimously backed her to take over from Sng.
However, following the general assembly, Sng said he was shocked by PBM information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid’s announcement that Zuraida, the former Ampang MP, was officially the party president.
Sng said there were certain procedures to follow before the party could have a new president, one of which was that the incumbent must resign or be sacked.
Despite his comments, Sng insisted that there was no conflict between him and Zuraida, and that he just wanted the transition carried out according to the “right procedures” to avoid PBM facing any problems with the Registrar of Societies. - FMT
