Woman in UiTM crash ‘never the same after falling into a coma’

The husband of a woman driver who crashed into two motorcycles in Dungun, Terengganu, killing three university students, said his wife was no longer the same after she fell into a coma 10 years ago.

The man, 53, said his wife fell into a four-day coma after suffering an ectopic pregnancy, Utusan Malaysia reported him as saying. She had not been the same since, he said.

I’ve taken her to hospitals for treatment and also tried traditional methods to treat her, but nothing has changed,

 he was quoted as saying.

His wife might have been hearing voices before the accident, he said.

In Wednesday’s accident, three students of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) were killed and another critically injured when a car driven by the woman collided with their motorcycles.

The driver’s husband apologised to the victims’ families on her behalf. 

If I could, I would get down on my knees and beg for their forgiveness on her behalf.

The university identified the three victims as Akmal Md Tukirin, 25, from Muar, Johor; Ku Adib Ku Azmi, 20, from Sungai Buloh, Selangor; and Khairil Anwar Jamaludin, 20, from Ampang, Selangor.

Ammar Danish Ridhuan, 20, suffered injuries to his waist and is receiving treatment.

The woman driver was reported to have been in a state of confusion when she was taken to Kuala Terengganu court for a remand hearing yesterday, Bernama reported.

However, Terengganu health director Dr Kasemani Embong said there was no information available at government hospitals and clinics in the state about the woman’s mental health. She said the woman might have been treated in private facilities or in other states. - FMT
