Bersatu to announce results of party polls tomorrow

The Bersatu national elections have been marred by controversy, with 10 divisions suspended.

PETALING JAYA
Results of Bersatu’s leadership elections, which have been marred with controversy, will be announced tomorrow afternoon, the party has announced.

A party statement said the results of elections, held at 169 divisions, had been received, and the party’s election committee would review complaints and objections before the final tallying.

Elections were not held at 10 divisions, which have been suspended by the national leadership. The Jeli, Machang, and Gua Musang divisions in Kelantan were suspended yesterday, and will now hold their elections in December.

The party’s national elections are to fill the posts of permanent chairman, deputy chairman, three posts of vice-president, and 20 seats on the Supreme Council.

Muhyiddin Yassin has been re-elected as president, with Hamzah Zainudin as deputy president. Both posts were uncontested. However, five people are contesting the three vice-presidential posts, and 79 are contesting the Supreme Council seats.

The elections have been viewed as a proxy battle between Hamzah and Azmin Ali, who joined Bersatu from Umno and PKR respectively.

The election campaign has seen two divisional leaders leaving the party with their supporters.

Pahang Bersatu treasurer Roslan Hassan left the party on Nov 1 with a group of 40 members, citing a loss of confidence in Bersatu’s top leadership, and accusing them of being dishonest, untrustworthy and in disarray.

Yesterday, Hassan Rasid, head of the Tenggara division in Johor, said he had left, along with 30 members, including 15 division committee members.

Hassan also cited a lack of confidence in Bersatu’s top leadership, whom he accused of failing to manage the party effectively and lacking transparency in carrying out their responsibilities. - FMT
