KUALA LUMPUR: The customs department has denied that its director-general, Anis Rizana Zainudin, misused government funds for a family holiday in Bangkok, and has filed a police report on the allegation made on social media.
The department described the allegation as baseless and slanderous. It said no departmental allocation was used to finance the cost of the flights (allegedly on business class), accommodation or other costs related to the trip to Bangkok, instead it was fully borne by Anis, Berita Harian reported.
Anis’s trip to Bangkok from Oct 30-Nov 1 was approved by the secretary-general of the Treasury and was in accordance with procedures and regulations on private trips abroad by public servants, the department said in a statement.
“While in Bangkok, she attended an international boxing championship to support customs staff member Adli Hafidz, who won the championship, representing Malaysia,” it said.
The department urged the public to rely on official sources for information and to have faith in the integrity and dedication of the director-general. - FMT
