Don’t stir up emotions about anti-Islam video rant, says Ti

PETALING JAYA: A former deputy unity minister said the man in a viral video who went on an expletive-laden rant against Islam does not in any way represent the non-Muslim community.

Ti Lian Ker said the video should be regarded as “strictly confined to the actions of an individual who could be having his own personal problems” and not generalised against any community.

“There is no need to politically exploit or drum up emotions for such an isolated incident,” he told FMT. “There is no need to over-react as it could traumatise younger minds. Let’s leave this to the authorities,” added Ti, a former MCA vice-president.

He urged the public against sharing the video, saying there was no need to “spread the hate” or add fuel to the fire. He said hate-filled content on social media, directed towards matters of race and religion, was a threat to Malaysia’s multiracialism and harmony.

Ti thanked the authorities for acting swiftly as such inflammatory material could have detrimental repercussions if left unchecked.

Earlier today, police said they would be taking a statement “in the near future” from the man who posted the video, as he is undergoing mental health treatment at a hospital. - FMT
